What: Flat White Coffee
Where: Nelson the Seagull (315 Carrall St, Vancouver BC) http://www.nelsontheseagull.com
Why: When I lived in Australia I became addicted to flat whites, an Aussie version of a latte. It’s difficult to find someone in Vancouver that serves them, much less lists them on the menu, so you can imagine my surprise and delight at finding Nelson the Seagull makes them… perfectly!
What is a flat white?
Similar to a latte, it’s prepared by freepouring the velvety microfoam from the bottom of a pitcher of steamed milk into a couple of shots of hot strong espresso. Ideally creating the rich caramelly brown layer on top that baristas get all artsy with. Priced at $3.50, I would happily pay this over anything coming from any of the chains.
